History

Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, who rediscovered this healing method in 1922 after a spiritual experience during a 21-day meditation retreat on Mount Kurama. Usui's system of Reiki involves the channelling of universal life energy through the hands to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing for the recipient. Since then, Reiki has been passed down through generations of Reiki masters, to their students.

Usui's teachings were spread to the West by his students, particularly Hawayo Takata, a Japanese-American woman who introduced Reiki to the United States in the 1930s.

Since then, while Reiki gained global recognition and evolved into various styles and practices, the core principles of energy healing and balance remain central to its practice.

Why Reiki

Many people find Reiki sessions to be deeply meditative and nourishing, feeling a sense of inner peace and clarity. Whether you're dealing with a specific health issue or simply looking to enhance your overall wellness, incorporating regular Reiki into your self-care routine can be a truly transformative experience. The comfort and relaxation it provides can have a profound impact, leaving you feeling rejuvenated, grounded, and more in tune with your authentic self.

Benefits

Reiki is believed to alleviate a wide range of ailments, from chronic pain and anxiety to insomnia and immune system disorders, by restoring harmony and balance to the mind, body, and spirit. Reiki can have a profoundly calming and restorative effect and can aid the body in shifting from the sympathetic "fight-or-flight" stress response into the parasympathetic "rest and digest" state. Many people report feeling a soothing warmth, tingling sensation, or a sense of deep relaxation or peace wash over them during a Reiki treatment.
